Home Remedy for stretch marks

Gotu Kola, Almond oil, Turmeric, Besan formulations are used in India to eliminate stretch marks.

The most common cause of stretch marks on female abdomen is pregnancy. The skin on the abdomen stretches causing a tear in the sub-layer under the skin. The stretch marks may also be caused due to obesity and may appear on thighs, and upper breast area.

90% of pregnant women suffer from stretch marks. 10% of women have very elastic skin and the marks easily disappear.

Some lucky women have more elastic skin than others, meaning they won't get stretch-marks, but for most of us they are simply a fact of pregnancy. You can't prevent them, but you can try to minimize them by avoiding putting on weight too quickly, rubbing oil or cream rich in vitamin E over your abdomen to keep it supple, eating a healthy diet and doing gentle exercise. Include nuts and seeds in your diet as they are rich in zinc and are known to reduce stretch marks. It may take some time for the stretch marks to fade after pregnancy.

A popular home remedy is a paste of gram flour (besan), fresh cream of milk, and a pinch of turmeric (haldi). Apply this mix and remove it after 10-15 minutes by rubbing it off gently. Another home remedy is applying egg white on stretch marks, letting it dry, and washing it off with ice cold water.

It is wise to consult your doctor before applying any over-the-counter anti-stretch mark creams.

Home Remedy

1. Studies have shown Brahmi (Gotu Kola) and Almond oil to be very effective in diminishing stretch marks. Gotu Kola is grown in South India and Sri Lanka. In Indian stores, you can buy Gotu Kola extract.

Step1:  Apply a few drops of Gotu Kola extract to the effected area and massage it in.

Step 2: Following Gotu Kola, apply a few drop of Almond oil and massage it in.

Step 3: After the massage rub the area with ice cube. Ice cube acts as an astringent.

Apply two times a day.

2. In the olden days, a paste of Besan (chickpea flour), Malai (clotted cream), and Haldi (Turmeric) was used. There is no scientific evidence that supports its affectivity.
