Do your Pedicure at home

Step by step method explained to do your pedicure at home. Once you go through it, the process will become a second nature.

Step 1 Remove old nail polish thoroughly

Put polish-remover on a cotton ball to remove old polish. Use as many cotton balls as needed. Don’t use tissue, it will fall apart and tissue doesn’t absorb the polish-remover well.

Step 2 Trim and File

Use quality toe nail clippers to cut toenails straight across. Do not cut nails very close to the skin, but not farther than the tip of the toe. Use an emery board to round square edges and smooth the nails. Use the emery board in one direction only from the side to the center of the nail. Avoid back and forth see-saw motion. Sawing motion will dry-out the nail and may even crack or peel it.
If you want to use emery board to shorten the nail, first use the coarse side of the board and then finish with fine side of the emery board
Check if your nails are done, by running them over a pair of old panty hose. Well done nails should not snag the hose

Step 3 Soak feet

Soak water Ingredients

1. Warm water: 4 Cups
2. Yogurt with live culture: 2 Tablespoon
2. Small Lemon: 1

Method

1. Add water to a flat bottom plastic or stainless steel bowl. Make sure water is no too hot. Hot water will dry out feet and toenails.
2. Add yogurt to water. Whist well. Yogurt has lactic acid. Don't add Milk, milk has lactose. We need lactic acid.
3. Slice the lemon into ½" thick slice. Separate the flesh from the rind. Put the rind and flesh in the warm water. Stir well.
4. Soak feet for 10 to 15 minutes.
5. Use the lemon-rind as a tool. Rub the lemon-rind on the nails to clean away dirt and massage the nail.
6. Dry feet. Don't throw away lemon rind. We will use lemon rind to push back cuticles

Step 4 Soften Feet

Apply almond oil or cuticle-lotion to hands. Almonds have the highest concentration of Vitamin E than any other oil source. This will soften rough spots.

Step 5 Push Back Cuticles

Use lemon-rind or a cuticle-stick to push back cuticles so cuticles don't come in the way of applying polish. Do not cut cuticles

Step 6 Scrub feet

Use a wet pumice stone and remove calluses and the the dead skin from the base of each foot. Smooth out your feet. Do not scrub too hard and too deep. It should take 2 to 3 minutes per foot. Wash away and dry feet.

Step 7 Moisturize feet

Apply 'fractionated coconut oil' or rich hand-moisturizer all around toes and in-between toes and the sole of the feet. Massage all around to improve blood circulation.

Step 8 Remove moisturizer from nails

Remove moisturizer from the top surface of the nails before they are painted. Use cuticle-stick wrapped with cotton, and dipped in nail polish remover to rub over the surface of the nail and remove any moisturizer residue

Step 9 Apply Base Coat

Wedge cotton between the toenails to keep the toes separate. Apply base-coat and let it dry

Step 10 Apply 1st Coat of Nail polish

Apply a thin coat of nail polish. Paint is applied in three strokes. First stroke is applied in the center of the nail from base to the top of the tip. Then you apply paint on each side of the center stroke. Use a cotton swab dipped in a polish removed to clean any stray marks.
Let the paint dry completely.

Step 11 Apply 2nd Coat of nail polish

Apply a second thin coat of nail polish in the same fashion as the fist coat was applied. This makes the color deep and rich. Let the paint dry completely.

Step 12 Apply topcoat of clear polish

Finish manicure by applying a topcoat of clear polish. Topcoat is formulated to give added protection against chipping. Let your nails dry completely before removing cotton wedged toe nails. You may wear open toe sandals or flip-flops making sure not to damage your nail polish. It may take another hour before you can wear socks, or closed toe shoes.

Notes

1. If you do not want to polish nails, after step 7, just buff the nails with a soft cloth
2. You may substitute Almond oil with Olive oil or a cuticle oil
3. Apply a little petroleum jelly and close the cap of the polish. The petroleum jelly will prevent cap from sticking. Store unused polish in the refrigerator.
