The hereditary factors include both genes and chromosomes. - Adult male (XY chromosomes) is taller than adult female (XX chromosomes). - Females reach their maximum height at a younger age than males - Height of mother correlates with the height of the son. On the short side, a boy may grows up as short as his mother. - Height of father correlates to height of daughter. On the tall side, a daughter may grow up as tall as her father.. - There is correlation between the height of children with the maternal age. Children born to young mothers (teens to mid twenties) grow up taller than children born to more mature women.
Mid Parental heightThis is a crude method of predicting a child's height based on the height of parents. Within a given population group, the height variation is primarily genetic. As a rule, the height is determined by the height of parents. The accuracy of these formulas is based on the assumption that father is 5" taller than the mother.
First we determine the Mean height of parents Mean height of parents = ((Height of father in inches) + (Height of Mother in inches)) divided by 2
Mid Parental Height of Boy = Mean height of parents + 2.5" Mid Parental Height of Girl = Mean height of parents - 2.5"
Minimum Genetic Height of Boy = Height of Mother Maximum Genetic Height of Girl = Height of Father
The Genetic Heights can vary by 2" the Mid Parental height Maximum Genetic Height of Boy = Mean height of parents + 4.5" Comment: 2.5" + 2" = 4.5" Minimum Genetic Height of Girl = Mean height of parents - 4.5" Comment: -2.5" - 2" = -4.5"
The environment can add 1.5" to the maximum genetic height
