Gestation Diabetes

In some women, Gestation diabetes develops during pregnancy and disappears after the birth

Nearly half the woman with gestation diabetes do develop diabetes later on in life, as such should remain on guard.
For a pre-pregnancy BMI of 21.6, an ideal weight gain is 24 to 27 pounds. During the second and third trimesters, weight gain should be about ¾ to 1 pound per week. The insulin required to keep blood glucose normal may not be met by the insulin produced by your body if the weight gain is in excess of 2 pounds per week. After or during 24th week of pregnancy, the physician may do a 'Oral Glucose Test' to check blood glucose levels. That's when the Gestation diabetes normally occurs. The most common factors may be a combination of following factors:
Higher maternal age (over 25 years)
Pre pregnancy BMI greater than 24.9
Family history of Type 2 diabetes
Gestational diabetes diagnosed in a previous pregnancy
History of abnormal glucose sensitivity (Sugar in urine)
History of delivering an infant heavier than 9 lbs.

Don't go on a starvation or any such diet. It can result in a pre-mature delivery. First of all eliminate all the simple sugars, saturated fats, trans fats, fruit juices, dried fruits, vegetable juices, from your diet. This will eliminate a lot of low nutrition calories. Switch to a simple dietary guidelines . If the blood glucose level still keep going up, the safest therapy will be insulin for your unborn.
