Acne Skin careFood and Acne1. There is NO cause and effect relationship between food and Acne. Contrary to popular belief Chocolate, sweets, candies, fried foods do not worsen or cause Acne. You should eat balanced diet. Foods high in B vitamins will help. 2. Contrary to popular belief, drinking a lot of water does not help get rid of Acne. Drinking water does help the skin moisture, and keep it supple.
Washing Face1. Wash your face two times a day with warm water and very mild soap/cleanser. Hot water will worsen acne. Wash your face from under the jaw to hairline. Use a mild cleanser. Thoroughly rinse your face with plain water after using the cleanser. 2. Use mild soap. Do not use abrasive soap, cleansing granules, or exfoliating agents. 3. Do Not wash more than 2 times a day. Excessive washing can cause inflammation and worsen the acne. 4. Do not scrub. Scrubbing can cause inflammation and worsen the acne. Do not use scrub pads. 5. Do not use washcloth. Use your hands for gentle wash. 6. When washing, make sure you have removed all your make up. 7. Commercial antiseptic washes do not help Acne 8. You can not remove blackhead by cleansing or scrubbing. It is melanin, a skin pigment. 9. Be careful in using astringents. Astringents should be used for spot treatment only: oily spots or pimples. 10. You may use mild and effective exfoliating agents such as Dahi yogurt.
Sweating and AcneThe excessive sweat contributes to Acne by blocking pores. After sweat causing activity, wash away the sweat to reduce adverse effect on Acne. 1. Sweating in certain parts of India with high humidity can worsen acne 2. Exercise or work induced sweat can worsen acne 3. Watch tight clothing such as headband, bras straps, tight shirt collars. These may cause acne around the area by trapping the sweat. 4. Wash your face after every heavy exercise.
Makeup and hair care1. Keep you hair away from face 2. Wash hair often to reduce oil. If you have real oily hair, you should shampoo it every day. 3. Keep hair spray and gel away from face to prevent pores from clogging. 4. Choose water-based make-up, moisturizer or sun screen. 5. Thick and greasy make-up will worsen acne Do NOT use ointments or oil-rich creams, these may clog pores. 6. Sun bed and sunbathing do not help with acne 7. Do NOT touch, pick, squeeze or pop pimples. Picking on pimples can cause scarring. Yes! the dermatologist do pop the pimples, but they have sterilized special tools that need to be used in a skilled fashion to avoid scarring and infections. 8. Choose make-up products that are labeled as non-comedogenic. They are formulated to avoid closing pores. Still, these products may cause acne in some cases. |
