The cooked dried beans can also be substituted for Meats. One oz of meat may be substituted with ¼ cup of cooked dried beans. It is based on 1 ounce of uncooked dried beans. In Indian  Cuisine, Dal is every day preparation. Dal is very soupy, so you can almost double the amount of Dal to ½ cup.
