American Wedding Party Attendants

In an Indian wedding, the parents and close family members play the major role. In an American wedding, the close friends of the couple play a dominant role, followed by the children of the family and friends.

Wedding ceremonies themselves are different depending on the faith. The father of the bride gives the bride away. I will not include the wedding ceremony itself here.

What is a wedding party?

The wedding party consists of bride's close friends (Maid of honor, Bridesmaids), Groom's close friends (Best man, Ushers). Wedding party may range from 4 to 16 persons. Typically, it consists of 12 persons. During wedding Reception the wedding party occupies the head table.
In addition to wedding party, the children of family and/or friends play a vital role during the wedding.

Maid of honor organizes bridal shower, girl's night out, helps the bride get ready for the wedding ceremony, toasts the newlyweds at the wedding reception.

The bridesmaids attend bridal shower, girl's night out. On the wedding day they help the bride with helpful chores as needed. They wear matching dresses.

The best man organizes the Bachelor party, holds the ring during the ceremony, toasts the newlyweds at the Wedding Reception.

Ushers help seat the guests at the wedding hall. They all wear matching formalwear. They help the groom with errands throughout the day.

Flower girls are children between ages 3 and 9, carry small bouquet down the isle during the wedding ceremony.

Ring bearer is a small boy, son of a family member or a friend

Candle-lighters, Junior Bridesmaids, Junior Ushers are between the ages of 9 and 14, dressed in matching dress/formalwear to their adult counter parts.
