The 2005 USDA dietary guidelines are interpreted for Indian foods In 2005, the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) created new dietary guidelines. Inside the my pyramid . It includes six major food groups: Grains, Vegetables, Fruits, Dairy and Calcium rich foods, Protein rich foods such as meats beans and fish, and Fats & Oils. Here, we will discuss these food groups, specially as they relate to Indians living in United States. Alongside the pyramid are stairs representing the importance of exercise. We will not use the graphics, instead we will discuss the physical activity itself. We will discuss the food intake patterns to meet various levels of calorie needs. What we have called as India food pyramid is basically daily requirements for various food groups. In these pyramids we will assume sedentary life style unless stated otherwise.
