What is waist to hip ratio?In general women collect fat in their hips and buttocks and men collect fat around the belly It is the fat around the waist that is of concern.
A measurement called waist-to-hip ratio is calculated. W = Waist measurement at the narrowest point H = Hip measurement at the widest point Waist-to-hip ratio = W divided by H Women are at high risk if waist-to-hip ratio exceeds 0.8 Men are at high risk if waist-to-hip ratio exceeds 1.0
In general, men with waste measurement of of 40" or over, and women with waste measurement of 35" or over are considered at high risk. |
