How nuts are used in India?

Nuts are used more often in India than in USA. Nuts are used in making curries, beverages, deserts, and snacks

 

Curries

Creamy Curry

Almond and Cashews are used to make creamy curries such as Korma. These are flavorful mild curries.

Curry Thickeners

Desiccated coconut, and peanut meals are used as thickeners to make hot curry sauces

Rice Pilaf

Sliced Almonds are used in most of the Mughal Rice Pilafs, and sweet Rice Pilaf such as Zarda

 

Beverages

Thandaii

Almonds are presoaked and ground up with along with seeds (Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Pumpkin) to make cold beverages called Thandai served during summer. Thandai in Hindi means cooling and refreshing.

Milk

Almonds, and Pistachios are used with milk to make sweet scalded and reduced milk.

Halwa, Burfee, Peda, Laddu, Ice cream, Kulfi
