What is the difference between nut flour and nut meal?
1. Nut flour is same consistency as bread flour. The nut meal is same consistency as corn meal or Sooji (Cream of wheat).
2. To make flour, the nuts are pressed and oil extracted leaving behind what is referred to as the nut cake. The nut cake is ground to the consistency of the bread flour. It is difficult to make almond flour at home. The difficulty lies in extracting out the oil.
3. Commercially, the nut oil is extracted out similar to making flour. At home, the nut meal is made from whole nuts. The oil is not extracted from the nuts. The whole nuts are ground to the consistency of corn meal or Sooji (cream-of-wheat).
