Basal Metabolic Energy Expenditure Calculator

This is a combination calculator. It determines your Ideal Body weight based on age gender and body frame

The ideal Body weight is adjusted for obesity, we call it Active Body Weight. The Basal Energy Expenditure (BEE) is determined based on the Active Body Weight. Further, we have developed a formula to adjust the BEE for resting and sedentary (minimum activity relating with sleeping watching TV,  using bath rooms, and eating).

If a person's weight exceeds 125% of the ideal weight, the added fat is inactive.

Resting is when the subject is asleep, staying in bed, or wheel chair bound. Sedentary is minimum activity to use bathroom, eating, watching TV, these are the minimum activity levels similar to hospitalized patients.

BEE for a male =

= 66.473 + (13.752 * (weight)) + (5.003 * (height)) - (6.755 * (age))

BEE in a female =

= 655.096 + (9.563 * (weight)) + (1.85 * (height)) - (4.676 * (age))

where:

BEE is expressed in kcal per 24 hours

weight is actual body weight in kilograms

height is in centimeters

age is in years

If the subject is obese (greater than 125% ideal body weight), then an adjustment for the weight needs to be made for metabolically inactive fat. The weight over 125% of is computer as (0.025 * ((actual body weight) - (125% of ideal body weight)))
