Herbal Teas for Heartburn

Herbal teas provide a natural way to help with heartburn and other digestion related problems. These teas do not contain black or green tea leaves

 

Chamomile Tea

Calms down stomach and helps with heartburn

Ingredients

1. Dried Chamomile flowers, washed rinsed: 2 Tablespoons

2. Water: 3 Cups

3. Honey: Optional

Bring water to a boil. Add Chamomile flowers. Turn down heat. Let it simmer 5 minutes. Shut off heat. Strain tea, discard flowers. Add honey to taste. Drink one cup in the evening.

 

Ginger Tea

Ginger helps soothe burning sensation in the stomach. It is digestive stimulant (especially the enzymes in fresh ginger root), anti-inflammatory for the bowels. Ginger tea with lime juice also helps with sour stomach

Ingredients

1. Fresh ginger root chopped: 1"x2"

2. Water: 3 to 5 cups

3. Honey: Optional

Method

Bring water to a boil. Add chopped ginger. Turn down heat. Let it simmer 20 minutes. Shut off heat. Strain tea, discard leaves. Add honey to taste. Drink one cup in the morning and one cup in the evening

 

Marshmallow herb tea

Marshmallow herb (Althaea officinalis) contains mucilage which coats and soothes the lining of esophagus to prevent heartburn sensation.

Diabetics, Pregnant women, Nursing women should not take Marshmallow herb

Ingredients

1. Dried Marshmallow root ground: ¼ cup

2. Water: 5 cups

3. Honey: Optional

Method

Bring water to a boil. Add marshmallow root. Turn down heat. Let it simmer 15 minutes. Shut off heat. Strain tea, discard herbs. Add honey to taste. Drink one cup three times a day

 

Multi Herbal (Peppermint Aniseed Lavender) Tea

Ingredients

1. Peppermint leaves fresh, chopped: 1 Tablespoon

2. Aniseed (Choti Saunf): 2 teaspoon

3. Lavender: 2 teaspoon

4. Water: 4 cups

5. Honey: Optional

Method

Bring water to a boil. Add Peppermint, Aniseed, and Lavender. Turn down heat. Let it simmer one minutes. Shut off heat. Let it rest 10 minutes. Strain tea, discard herbs. Add honey to taste. Drink one cup in the morning and one cup at night.

 

Peppermint Tea

Peppermint helps in digestion, stomach distension, cramps, ulcers and gas

Ingredients

1. Fresh peppermint leaves finely chopped: ½ Cup

2. Water: 3 to 5 cups

3. Honey: Optional

Method

Bring water to a boil. Add peppermint leaves. Turn down heat. Let it simmer 2 minutes. Shut off heat. Let it rest 5 minutes. Strain tea, discard leaves. Add honey to taste. Drink one cup in the morning and one cup in the evening

 

Slippery Elm (Ulmus rubra muhl) Tea

The inner bark contains mucilage, a gel-like substance that swells when it is mixed
with water. The mucilage is thought to coat the esophagus and reduce irritation

Ingredients

1. Slippery Elm Bark powder: 1 Tablespoon

2. Water: 1 cup

3. Honey: optional

Method

Boil water. Add Slippery Elm Powder to an empty cup. Pour boiling water on the powder. Stir. It will turn into thick gel-like consistency. Add honey to taste. Drink one cup in the morning and one cup in the evening
