How to relieve and manage heartburn?

Avoid trigger foods eat low-fat and high-fiber food drink plenty of water

 

Quick Relief

1. Drink plain water to dilute the acid.
2. Chew gum. It must not be peppermint or spearmint gum. The saliva produced will help.
3. There are many over-the-counter medication available at your local store.
4. Add about 1/8th teaspoon of baking soda in ½ cup of water. Drink the baking soda solution, it will neutralize the acid. Remember: Sodium is NOT good for your general nutrition. You may even be on sodium restricted diet for hypertension.

 

Heartburn Management

1. Eat low fat, and high fiber foods.
2. Learn and avoid your trigger foods .

3. Avoid large meals to prevent over-extending your stomach
4. Drink minimum amount  water with meals to keep your stomach from being over-extended.
5. Don't gulp down food. Eat in small bites and chew every bite thoroughly.

6. Don't lie down after eating, stay up-right for 2 to 3 hours.
7. Sleep on an inclined bed so that the headboard is about 4 to 6" higher then the footboard..
8. Lose weight especially to reduce your waist-line.
9. Don't wear tight belt.
