Biryani Rice Pilaf Healthy Recipe

I have used the word Biryani in a lose sense. Brown rice has three times more fiber than white rice.

The wild rice is not really a rice, but has higher protein and fiber than rice.

Ingredients

Flavor Water

1. Olive oil: 2 Tablespoons
2. Chopped onion: ½ Cup
3. Minced garlic: 1 Tablespoon
4. Turmeric powder: ¼ teaspoon
5. Bay leaf: 1
6. Cinnamon powder: ¼ teaspoon
7. Clove powder: ¼ teaspoon
8. Water: 2 Cups
9. Salt
10. Cayenne Pepper

Main Dish

1. Uncooked long grain brown rice: 1 Cup
2. Uncooked wild rice: ½ Cup
3. Sliced carrots: ½ Cup
4. Chopped broccoli spears: ½ Cup
5. Chopped green bell pepper: ½ Cup

6. Water for Rice: 5 Cups

Method

Step 1: Pre cook Rice

Brown Rice and Wild rice take long time to cook. Bring  5 cups of water to a boil. Add brown rice and wild rice. Turn down heat. Cover. Cook for 30 minutes till rice is almost cooked.

Step 2: Flavor Water

Heat oil in a heavy bottom pan. Add onions sauté till brown. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Steep on medium heat covered for 5 minutes. Remove Bay leaf.

Step 2: Baking

Preheat oven to 350º F.

Put all the ingredients in a 9x13 baking dish. Add hot flavor water from step 1. Cover baking dish with Aluminum foil. Bake 20 minutes.
If needed add more hot water. Stir. Cover and bake till done.
