Water helps kidneys to eliminate waste generated as a result of breaking down fats and proteins. Higher the amount of protein (such as Atkins diet), harder the kidneys work.
The kidneys need water to function efficiently. If kidneys don't function to their capacity, the liver takes over some of these functions. One of primary function of liver is to metabolize stored-fat into energy. If the liver is doing some of the kidney's function, it cant do its primary job to metabolize fats efficiently. The metabolism becomes sluggish.
Water increases the metabolism temporarily. Temporary increase in metabolism caused by drinking 2 cups of water will burn about 25 calories in 30 minutes.
Drinking water before eating anything, makes you feel that much fuller and makes you eat less. Drinking too much water before meals can dilute your digestive juices with adverse effects. Limit water-intake before meals to 2 cups. |
