How to store fresh Tomatoes?

The ideal temperature for tomatoes is 55º F. If stored at lower temperature, it will effect the taste and texture of tomatoes

Therefore, the tomatoes used for eating raw are not stored in the refrigerator.

The tomatoes sold in United States are just partially ripened. After buying the tomatoes, they should be left at room temperature (smooth side down, stem side up) till they are ripe.
If you are going to use tomatoes for cooking, the ripened tomatoes may be stored in the refrigerator for about 10 days. For long term storage, the ripened tomatoes may be chopped and sealed in zip-lock freezer bags and stored in the freezer.
