What is cloves? Lavang

Cloves are unopened flower buds from the clove tree, used as a spice in Indian cooking

In Hindi, Cloves are called Lavang

Whole cloves, or powder are used in making curries. They are also an ingredient of all Garam Masala spice blends. Whole cloves are also added to pickles.

The flower buds are dried in hot sun to a hard stem. Better quality cloves have deep reddish brown color in comparison to lighter color.
