How Cumin is used in Indian cooking?

Cumin is available in two forms Ground Cumin and Whole cumin seeds

The flavor of Ground cumin is different from cumin seeds. Cumin seeds can be used as-is, dry-roasted or fried in fat. The flavor of Cumin seeds is different in all the three forms.
Ground Cumin powder is used to make Chili and in most of Mexican and East Indian cooking as a part of curry sauce. Try a pinch to freshen-up chili or wake-up your next beef stew.
Whole cumin seeds can be used as-is in baking multigrain or whole wheat breads & fried East Indian bread (Poori).
Heat up a pan, add cumin seeds, roast them till they are almost black. Try roasted-roasted cumin seeds in your next cold soup.
In a pan, put some olive oil, let the oil get real hot, add cumin seeds, let them fry till brown to black. Try this on your next vegetable stew. This is also called Bhagar.
