Does weight-lifting stunt growth?

Weight-lifting is a Vertical-Compression exercise, the legs and spine experience a compression force exerted by lifting weights

Height is genetic and determined by the height of parents. However, it can be greatly influenced by diet, nutrition (Calcium and Vitamin D3), and exercise

1. Vertical-Compression exercise, if done exclusively may indeed stunt growth.

2. Vertical-Extension exercise will always promote growth. Examples are basketball, Volleyball, Swimming. The simplest Vertical-Extension exercise is to stand by the wall and try to touch ceiling by extending your spine and legs.

3. Combination of Vertical-Compression exercise and Vertical-Extension exercise will promote growth. Swimming (Vertical-Extension) and weightlifting (Vertical-Compression) will be good. Many professional basketball players grew up tall by lifting weights and playing basketball (Vertical-Extension) as teenagers.

Running and jogging is a simple combination exercise good for growth. Going up you are extending your legs and spine. Coming down the legs and spine may experience a compression force nearly five times the body weight.
