What is Diabetes?Diabetes is the inability of the body to generate enough insulin to control blood glucose level When we eat any thing that has calories, it converts to glucose. If we eat carbohydrates, they convert to glucose, almost instantaneously within up to two hours, proteins may take from 3 to four hours, the fats get converted to glucose in six hours or longer. In response, body generates insulin, so the glucose goes to the cells especially the muscles, and liver where they are used or stored as energy or making hormones, and the glucose level in the blood comes down. If the body does not generate insulin sufficient enough to bring the blood glucose down, we have diabetes. For more information see Diabetes Overview . |
