What is the difference between fruits and vegetables?

A fruit is a ripened ovary or ovaries of seed bearing plants

A fruit contains seeds inside or on the outer surface. The seeds by themselves are not fruits. The seeds may or may not be capable to germinate and produce another plant. Seeds inside bananas can not be germinated. The strawberries have the seeds on the outer surface.

Normally when the ovary is ripened, it increases the amount of fructose making them sweeter, it is not always true. Interesting examples of fruits are: Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Zucchini, Avocado, Bell Peppers, Peapods, and Pumpkins, Olives, Eggplants, Rose hips

Typical popular fruits are: Apples, Mangoes, Papaya, Cherries.

Technically, most of the nuts and dried beans in pods are also fruits.

A vegetable is a herbaceous plant or fungus cultivated for its edible parts. Vegetables are seeds (peas), stems (celery), leaves (spinach), flowers (cauliflower), roots and tubers (carrots, radishes, potatoes), and fungi (mushroom).
