How to choose an immersion handheld blender?

Handheld blender look like a stick and are also called stick blenders They are useful in thickening Dal and making Chutney

Uses

I use this blender to make Cholay, Mah ki dal. When the beans are almost cooked, I use the stick blender to partially liquefy about one fourth of the beans and continue cooking for another five minutes. This gives the beans a very nice body. You can do the same for many of the soups. In American cuisine, this is used for whipping. You can also make Chutney.

Features

Immersion blenders are shaped like a stick. On one end of the stick is the cutting blades. I will give you the basic features a good handheld blender must have.

1. Minimum power should be 250 watts. Lower power models just don't do an adequate job.

2. Do not buy a single piece unit. Buy a unit where the immersible shaft with the blade is detachable. Preferably, this shaft should be made of stainless steel.

3. The minimum length of the immersible portion of the shaft should be about 6".
