Moong Dal Halwa Halva (Mung Cake) Recipe

Made with split skinless Mung beans Sugar Ghee Milk and Char Magaz nuts

This dessert is very common in the States of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

 

Ingredients

1. Mung Dal (Split skinless Mung beans): 1 Cup
2. Ghee (Clarified Butter): ¼ Cup
3. Sugar: 1 Cup
4. Whole milk: 1 Cup
5. Cardamom powder: ½ teaspoon
Char Magaz
1. Blanched Slivered Almonds: 1 Table spoon
2. Watermelon seeds: 1 teaspoon
3. Cantaloupe seeds: 1 teaspoon
4. Pumpkin seeds: 1 teaspoon

 

Method

Step 1: Soak Moong Dal overnight. Rinse, Grind into a coarse paste with minimum water
Step 2 : Heat a heavy bottom pan. Add Ghee. When Ghee is hot, add Dal paste. Fry till all the water is gone, and the Dal starts to change color to slightly brown.
Step 3: Add Char Magaz and fry for couple of more minutes.
Step 4: Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil. Turn down heat. Keep simmering till the mixture is thickened to a nice running paste.
Serve Hot or cold.
