Introducing proteins baby foods

At the age of 8 months, baby is ready to start receiving high-protein baby-foods. High-proteins include meats, dried beans and dairy products

 

Non Vegetarians

Among meats, skinless boneless chicken is a preferred first meat. Chicken may be given at the age of 8 months old. The chicken must be fully cooked.

Red meats (Beef,  Lamb, Goat) are high in iron than chicken and may be may be introduced at the age of 10 months.

Cooked meats should be cooled down to room temperature and pureed in the food processor.

 

Vegetarians

For vegetarians best source of proteins is dried beans. The animal proteins are derived from Yogurt and cheese.

The dried beans can be introduced at the age of 8 months.

Use decorticated ( No skin) split beans of your choice (Moong, Chana Dal, Pigeon peas).

Follow you family favorite Dal recipe. Use a food processor to puree the Dal with the water in which the beans were cooked.

At the age of 10 months, you may use whole dried beans such as Chick peas, Urad, and Moong.

 

You may also add vegetables such as carrots or green beans when cooking Dal.

Before the age of 8 months: None

8 months old

Chicken, Yogurt

Eight to Ten (8-10) Months old

Thick Dal ¼ to ½ cup per day. (Skinless split beans)

Egg Yolks, Lean cuts of:  Lamb, Goat, Beef, Pork

Paneer, Cream Cheese, Cottage Cheese

Twelve Months old

Whole Eggs, Fish

Whole Milk, Cheese

Whole beans (Chickpeas, Urad, Moong)
