Diaper Rash Home remedyThere are two common types of diaper rash, Friction rash, and Irritant rash. Friction rash is caused as certain parts of the diaper are rubbed against the skin, area under the elastic and the edging around the inner thighs. This is easily taken care of by using a looser diaper, and frequent diaper changes. Irritant rash is most visible as red area around the buttocks. Skin wetness is the common cause of diaper rash, specially the urine. The Urine effects the skin acidity, making the skin to be more susceptible. The enzymes from the stool and other irritants such as soap, detergents, and baby wipes result in further inflammation in the area of buttocks. The skin becomes susceptible to yeast and bacteria. Yeast rash is red with raised borders and white scales. Other types of diaper rash include Allergic Rash, Intertrigo Rash (deep in skin fold), Seborrhea Rash (salmon-colored, greasy rash with yellowish scales), Psoriasis.
How to prevent diaper rashOne must avoid harsh soaps, and detergents. Avoid baby wipes. Most of the baby wipes contain alcohol that irritates skin. Change diaper as soon as possible after wetting. Irritated skin should be exposed to air as much as possible. Allow about 30 minutes, before putting on a new diapers, to expose the skin to air and help it heal. Consider switching to cotton diapers. Cotton diapers allow more air circulation. Switch over to 'super absorbent' diapers containing gel to keep the moisture away from skin
Home RemedyYogurt and Baking SodaIn a Tablespoon of Whole Yogurt (with live culture), add a small pinch of baking soda. Apply to the effected area and let it dry, then put the diaper back on. The baking soda will neutralize the acid, the culture in yogurt will gobble up the yeast, the fat in the yogurt will help as a moisturizer.
OatmealPowder instant oatmeal in a food processor. Add a little amount of oatmeal to bath water. This will reduce the skin irritation and moisturize the skin. |
