Time to introduce high proteins (Non Dairy)

After the baby has become used to the vegetables and fruits, it is time to add foods high in proteins such as strained meats, tofu, dried beans, egg yolks. Start with one teaspoon at a time increasing to 1 Tablespoon.

Egg yolk makes the ideal first meat protein for the infant. Bring water to a boil, introduce the egg to the boiling water. Turn off the heat. Wait 20 minutes. Remove the egg yolk and mash it with fork. Don't give egg whites to babies under 12 months of age, it may cause allergic reaction.

For vegetarians, decorticated (skinless) split Moong beans make an ideal Dal for infants. The Dal should be over cooked and strained if necessary,

Common commercial baby foods for strained meats are: beef, liver, turkey, and chicken.

Homemade foods

1. Strained meats

4. Vegetables and fruits need not be strained but they should be mashed with fork.
5. Add limited amount of whole wheat . You may introduce Roti made from whole wheat flour. The Roti should be made by kneading flour and plain water only for the dough. After the Roti is made, don't baste it with Ghee or Butter. Make crumbles in food processor. Soak crumbles in  breast milk or formula till the crumbles are soft.
