Chicken 65 Crispy Deep Fried drumsticks recipe

Battered deep fried spicy hot chicken dish used as snack or main meal pungency from cayenne ginger mustard and vinegar

 

Chicken 65 has become one of the popular offerings in the full service restaurant. No one really knows the origin of the name. It is believed that some one tried to cook a whole chicken in a pot with 65 dried red chili peppers to make it hot, and then adjusted the spices by adding lime juice to make it more palatable. The dish has been modified to compete against American 'Buffalo wings'. The basic pungency in the dish is derived from ginger, cayenne pepper, mustard powder and the vinegar.  The dish can be served as a main entree and made from chicken breast, or as an appetizer. The recipe varies with every restaurant to restaurant.

You can make chicken 65 many ways, cooking method can vary, but the taste is in the spices.

 

Method #1 Baked Dry Chicken 65 Baked Dry drumsticks

Marinate chicken. remove the chicken from marinate. Baste chicken with ghee and bake in an oven preheated at 425º.F for 20 minutes Serve it as a finger food. Cook the marinate and use it as a dip

 

Method #2 Crispy Deep fried Chicken 65 Crispy deep fried drumsticks

Marinate chicken. remove the chicken from marinate. Cook the chicken with marinate on stove top till chicken is almost done about 15 minutes from boiling. Remove from the marinate. Add flour to marinate and make it into a batter. Deep fry battered chicken at 350º F for five minutes. Serve it as a finger food.

 

Method #3 Curry Chicken 65 Stove-top drumsticks Curry

Marinate chicken. Remove from marinate. Heat ghee in a pan. Brown the chicken, Return the marinate. Simmer on low heat covered. Cook for about 25 minutes till done.

 

Method #4 Stir-fried Chicken 65 stir-fried breast 30 min recipe

Use chicken breast. Marinate it, Remove from marinate. Stir fry in hot pan about 6 to 8 minutes. Cook marinate and serve as dip or return to cover the fried chicken

 

Ingredients

Marinate
1. Skinless Drumsticks: 8 - 12
2. Minced Garlic: 2 Tablespoon
3. Ginger finely chopped almost pureed: 2 Inch
4. Cayenne powder: 1 Tablespoon
5. Salt: ½ Tablespoon
6. Degi Mirch or Paprika: 1 teaspoon
7. Whole-milk Dahi (Yogurt): ½ Cup
8. Hot Mustard powder: ½ Tablespoon
9. Lime Juice: 2 Tablespoon
10. White vinegar: ¼ Cup

Batter
1. Egg slightly beaten: 1
2. All purpose flour: 2 Tablespoon

Method

Step 1:  Marinate: Mix all ingredients except chicken drumsticks well. Add drumsticks and put it in a refrigerator for about 4 hours or overnight.

Step 2. Cook the drumsticks and marinate on stove top at medium heat till they are tender. Bring it to a boil. Cook covered 15 minutes. Remove the lid. Let it cool

Step 3: Use a slotted spoon to remove the chicken set chicken aside.

Step 4. Add egg and flour to cooked marinate. Make it into a batter. Adjust salt and pepper if needed.

Step 2: Pre-heat deep fryer at 350º F. Coat chicken in batter. Deep fry 3 to 5 minutes
