Daruhaldi (Daruharidra) Berberis aristata - Berberidaceae
Primarily used to treat liver dysfunction (jaundice and inflammation) and flow of bile
This shrub grows near the foothills of Himalayas (Example Nepal), and Nilagiri range in South India. The
Daruharidra. It resembles Haridra (Turmeric). Both Daruharidra and Haridra are mentioned in the Ayurveda
treatises for medicinal use. The root is thick and woody covered with thin brittle bark. The fruit is a bright
red color berry. The bark of the root, stem and fruit are all used for medicinal purposes. Daruharidra is used
both as internal medicine and applied topically.
