Bread Upma Recipe

We will make this dish using slicing bread. I will use whole-grain bread slices.

 

Ingredients

1. Whole grain bread: 10 slices

2. Canola oil: 3 Tablespoons

3. Brown Mustard Seeds: 1 teaspoon

4. Onion: ¾ cup, peeled finely chopped

5. Salt: ¼ teaspoon or to taste

6. Frozen Peas: 1 cup
7. Serrano: 1 chopped coarsely

8. Cashews split: ¼ cup

9. Lime Juice: ¼ teaspoon

10. Sugar: 2 teaspoons

11. Hot Water ¼ cup
12. Cilantro: 2 tablespoons washed leafs picked stem discarded chopped 

Method

1. Toast the bread slices to just brown. Do not butter the bread. Tear each slice into about 8 to 10 pieces. Set aside

2. Heat Ghee in a heavy bottom pan. Add mustard seeds cook till they start to sputter about 2 minutes.

3. Add onions, and salt, sauté the onion till the edges start to turn brown. 
4. Add peas, Serrano, and cashews. Sauté about five minutes 
5. Add lime juice, sugar and stir 
6. Add water and stir. Bring to a near boil. 

7. Add bread pieces. Toss around. Turn off heat

8 . Cover and let the bread absorb all the juices. 
9. Stir in chopped cilantro.
