Should we take senior Vitamin supplements?

This issue has been a point of contention among experts. There is no study to suggest that prolonged use of these supplements in moderation as suggested has any adverse effects. The evidence supports that nutritional deficiencies may adversely effect the physical and mental well being. Therefore, in my opinion elderly should take consider taking following supplements:

Calcium and Vitamin D to prevent loss of bone mass

Choosing Calcium Vitamin D Supplement

Omega 3 (Fish or plant oils, or Marine algae DHA) for cognitive function

Choosing Fish oil supplement

Choosing Plant oil supplement

Omega 3 (DHA) Marine Algae supplement

Senior Multi-Vitamin and Minerals

Vitamin B12, B6, and folate to lower Homocysteine levels for heart and stroke

Vitamin C and Lutein for preventing cataracts and macular degeneration

Extra Vitamin D for South Asians.

Choosing Senior Vitamin supplement

Vitamin E to reduce risk of heart attack

Choosing Vitamin E supplement for ageing

Notes

Sub-lingual (under the tongue) B12 is absorbed easier, may be taken as a separate supplement.
