Sarcopenia among elderlyAs we age, we lose skeletal muscle. Skeletal muscle is used by the body movements such as standing, sitting or walking. Sarcopenia gives the appearance of losing height. Skeletal muscle loss should not be confused with bone mass loss or general muscle mass loss. You can gain muscle mass loss via strength training exercises. Bone mass loss can be controlled by intake of Calcium and Vitamin D. However, prevention of muscle mass and bone mass does seem to help with Sacropenia. Skeletal muscle loss has no easy answers yet, except for perhaps growth hormones. |
